Critical commentary by Carlo Maschietto
"I have defined Massimiliana Sonego's painting as "her jazz" for two reasons: the first is that, in the elegant combination of fields and darting signs, it is characterized precisely by its 'musicality'; the second is that her paintings remind me of certain fabulous covers of jazz and rock'n'roll records from the 1950s. Sonego, who has an infallible sense of color both tonally and timbrically, has been able, through a great 'distillation', to bring her painting to its current absoluteness. Hers is a 'feverish' way of doing things that manages to skip steps and is characteristic of the 'lyrical' ones."
