Memories Elsewhere Poster Portobuffolè

Those indefinite bodies that create new lives"
by Ennio Pouchard

"The pictorial and graphic images of Massimiliana Sonego, exhibited in Portobuffolè by the cultural association Ta-lenti, are indefinite bodies floating in the great silence of an boundless universe. Some seem to possess a seed of life (a face?), while others feature geometric intelligence or the mechanical purity typical of design products. According to the artist's words, quoted by Eugenio Manzato in the presentation of the exhibition, they are the result of a "whirling overlap of Time and Space", where "thought loses its reassuring references, contents are freed from their usual meanings and impose themselves with new and unknown evidence". Therefore, if there is figurative representation, it may evoke something familiar, domestic, but it is always less imperative than the inner charge, which turns every set, every composition and every fragment into a partial component of a metaphorical painting that is a conscious representation of life. The author is now the protagonist of an adventure that began when, as a spontaneous painter of still lifes, she decided to give herself a new identity by graduating from the Academy of Venice and then specializing in graphic art. The renunciation of figurative representation became a necessity of the spirit, and if today there is still a trace of it in her paintings, it is now only a very distant echo. Clear and decisive in the strokes, harmonious in the forms, confident in the mastery of colors, which mostly fill surfaces with shades of red, green, gray and black, and are measured in whites, Massimiliana Sonego presents a clearly defined poetic and a well-recognizable style.
